Free e-mail from Vodacom and MTN
My best price for anything is always free. You will have noticed though how many “free” deals come with a catch. The only catch with the free email provided by MTN is that the service is only available to contract customers. With Vodacom there is no catch it is available to prepaid customers as well.
To set up your email, you can always call customer services and roll the dice as to waiting time and whether the person on the other side can read a computer screen. Or you can set it up yourself on the Internet
Setup with Vodacom is easy, go to vodacom4me.co.za and click “register now”. Enter your details and submit. A few moments later you should get a SMS with details of your username and password for the Vodacom4me site. You can change the password once you are on the site. Once in the site there is an array of things you can do all relating to your Vodacom account. All very useful.
For now you are interested in the “email is free” picture in the upper right hand side. Click “check it out” and (hopefully) it will return a message telling you that you are registered. There are times the Vodacom4me site and e-mail are down but never for long. To get to your e-mail account select “messaging” and “e-mail” on the top bar. Remember that it can take 24 hours for your account to become active.
is also a great place to visit and has a nice clear link to Vodacom4me.
Info on Vodacom email is here:
MTN’s Email4life is just as easy. Finding the correct URL can be a challenge though. The links off the MTN site seem obscure to me. Go directly here. If you click on the cleverly hidden “Don’t have an account? Sign up”, you will be taken to a screen where you can enter your cell number. If you qualify for an MTN email account you will be send a password by SMS. You have to wait 24 hours for your account to become active.
For more information on MTN email go to here
For more MTN services, go to MTN and click on “MyMTN” on the top bar and then “communicate”.
It is also a good idea to register for the MTNloaded service. Back to the MTN Homepage. At the top right hand is “login/register”. Click on it. A pop up box allows you to enter your cellphone number and password. If you click “submit” without entering a password you are taken to a registration screen.
One of the pro’s of setting up on MTNloaded is the innovative email2SMS services.
If you liked that, read more about MTN’s SMS 2email service that is available to all customers.
Finally, using the username and password you will be able to set up a mail account in Outlook or Thunderbird to send and receive MTN or Vodacom email from your PC. The POP and SMTP settings are available as links in your email account.

would love to get email set immediately.please help im already
signed up with vodacom.
Kathy
Not sure exactly what it is you want to do. Assuming that it is to set up your mail client (program) to get your mail for you and assuming you have Outlook express.
There is a How-to HERE http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/oe/setup.mspx
and the setting you need are;
To set up a new account in your e-mail client,
the following settings should be entered:
Incoming Mail Server: pop3.vodamail.co.za
Outgoing Mail server: smtp.vodamail.co.za
Username: Username supplied via SMS at registration
Password: Password supplied via SMS at registration
These are usually the same Username/Password you use to access the Vodacom4me site.
If your username is your cell number then you need to use the format 27yournumber as the username in the mail program.
Hi
Can you please tell me what the incoming server for mtn is.
Thanks
Server for incoming mail at mtn is mail.mtnloaded.co.za
password and username are as set up for email.
I am using Samsung E250 and am unable to register an e-mail on my phone. Call me on 073 012 8012 and tell me what to do.
I also have Samsung E250. I need to set up email account. but i cant get on web site.
Shadrack and Lily.
From my google searching there seems to be an issue with email and the E250. I will research further and send you what I find by email.
i need help i cant remember my vodacom4me password. my number is 0829720684
lulupearl – I’ve done that myself. Go to Vodacom4me and use the “forgotten password” link underneath the login boxes to have your password SMS’ed to you.
Please am using Mtn in nigeria. And my phone is 6070. I want email setting. Free email, if there is one, will be most helpful.
Sorry Mac – I am not aware of free email on MTN Nigeria. Best to contact your local service provider. Internationally, you can get free email from google (gmail) or yahoo. My personal (local) recommendation is webmail.co.za
check http://www.free082sms.co.za if you like free stuff, it lets you use your 20 free Vodacom smses from your cellphone every day. Awesome!
Thanks for the tip Jack.
Iam using sony ericsson w200i and ive trifto set an email but steel it say sending failed my number is 0788470165
Sending failed messages are typical if your username and password are not correct or if your smtp settings are not set correctly. Check these first. Especially make sure your username is in the correct format. It is usually your cell number, but remember that on the mail server it can be in the format 07884***** or 7884***** (no 0) or 277884***** (with SA dial code) or +277884*****. In accordance with universal service provider guidelines, this info is usually buried somewhere obscure on the same page it tells you how to set up your pop and SMTP.
I have incorrect email password
Andries
As noted before, there is a link on the Vodacom4Me site below the login for recovering lost passwords. They send the password as a SMS to your phone.
I use a sony ericsson k810i nd ds fne a vodacm fne bt i’m usn mtn nd keeps sayn wrng passwrd or username. Need help urgently my cntcs are 0730293630
Lumka
The message usually means exactly what it says, the password or username is incorrect. The format of both must be 100% correct. For help on this look at https://mail.mtnloaded.co.za/mail/mtnloaded_extra.php
If you set up email from your cellphone, the best bet is to phone customer services. You wait and wait and they are sometimes rude, BUT they can send a setup script directly to your phone, saving you grief.
A lot of queries are around passwords and usernames. Again I say, they must be in the correct format, and the servers for sending and receiving the mail must be entered correctly. Read through my previous comments for this info. 90% of the time it is a spelling mistake or a failure to understand what the settings are for.
mtn is useless when it comes to email. my husband neva has problems with incoming server for vodacom. the mtn incoming server which is mail.mtnloaded.co.za IS NOT WORKING!!! ALL OF A SUDDEN……!
Mandisa
I have experienced the same. High mail volumes tend to crash the server. I think neither Vodacom of MTN set out to be email service providers or they just didn’t anticipate the demand. Now it is part of a service that serves a marketing need so they don’t really give a damn.
For my own part, I can’t offer free email, but for R120 per year I can offer interested readers a space on my server (yourname@getvalue.co.za) hosted by Hetzner. That includes support and help setting up (from me), the ability to set up aliases, about 100mb mailbox size, and a simple webmail interface and spam filters. Nothing fancy, but simple and reliable. Mail me webmaster@getvalue.co.za.
here you guys try this website for free stuff http://www.text-media.net
Site looks legit … give it a try
Hi my name is Isaac Themba Dube,i used to enjoy free e-mail from vodacom4me 4 24hrs without any problem now here at they’ve blocked des anyway u can bypass pls help,
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future. Thanks!
Hi, i have a samsung sgh-u700. Could you please send me the details of settin up my email on my phone(im using vodacom.)
can i set up a mtn email with my vodacom card
Godwill, if you read my previous replies you will see it is not possible for me to give these details as I am not an cellphone guru. You’ll have to contact Vodacom customer (dis)service. Yes, if you have an active MTN email account you will be able to set it up on your cellphone or PC, even if you are using a Vodacom SIM as long as you can access the data network. The same applies though , you will have to get the correct settings from MTN.
Can I create email account on my phone?
Kwabena, this question is too wide! Do you mean you want to set up an existing email account on your phone? So that you can send and receive form it? If so read the comments above. If you mean you want to set up your phone to use email, then contact your Service Provider. If you mean you want to set up email with your phone, well you can’t! You can use your phone to surf the Internet and set up a free account, or visit the Vodacom4me or MTN sites to set up mail. Only once you have an email account, any email account, can you set up your cell to send and receive mail. Remember that your phone must be Internet enabled in any event so CALL YOUR PROVIDER.
I do receive emails but I cannot get or view the attachments.I use a nokia n78.
please their some problems that i want yuo to solve for me . I am using nokia n81 (1)i cannot acess my internet.if i try to acess it would show me NOT SUPPORTED. (2)and if i want to download a thing from opera it would still show “not supported”(3)i don`t understand the meaning of MOBILE#
i am still using nokia 3110c, io tried to my configuration but mtn ask me to visit mtnonline. how am i to do?
Sipho. I am not an expert on cellphones so I don’t know what files your Nokia supports. Find that out for yourself in the manual or online. What I can tell you is that a Cellphone is not a PC. Unless your cell supports certain files you will not be able to open attachments. Most cellulars will happily open a .jpg (image) file or a mp3 (music) file. Only those with the Windows portable operating system will open MS Word documents or Powerpoint. Most cellulars will not open .pdf or movie files except .3gp.
I am not a cellular guru or even a fan of cellphones Mohammad. I do not know what functions your phone supports, and I will not research it for you as that is your job (since you are the one who wants to use the phone). If it says NOT SUPPORTED, then maybe the phone does not support internet (the phone must be WAP enabled). Check that first.
Please read my reply to your previous query re my expertise with cellular phones. Then read the rest of the comments for advice on dealing with configurations. Setting up a cellular phone on the internet and email requires that it be WAP enabled and also able to handle email. The configurations settings for these can usually be installed for you by your service provider, but you sometimes have to enter usernames and passwords for your mail manually. You have to find the mail configurations menu to do this. Only add your username and password. DO NOT change any of the other settings if you have no idea what they mean. If they have been set up by your service provider, then messing with port addresses and protocol settings is pissing in your own porridge.
